So, tonight I went up on the roof to shoot the solar eclipse. I didn’t have time to round up a piece of welder’s glass, so I did the next best thing: I took a sheet of flash gel and folded it over a few times, then gaffer-taped it to my lens hood. It cut down on image sharpness, dramatically, but it also blocked enough light that I could shoot the eclipse without damaging my camera or my eyes.
