1A

I’ve been working as a freelance photographer, or stringer, for the Abilene Reporter-News for about three months now. On Friday I was asked to go cover the graduation rehearsals for two local high schools. The rehearsals, mind you, not the actual graduation ceremonies. I expected the pics would be buried in the back pages, some local flavor or something.

So, imagine my shock and delight when I strolled past a newsstand and saw one of my shots large and in living color on the front page, above the fold. Imagine, also, my shock and delight when I opened it up, and saw a second photo on the front page, below the fold.

I know getting geeked out by having a shot appear on the front page just exposes my n00bishness, but I don’t care- this was a thrill!

Congrats! Great careers begin with humble starts, hard work, then a few breaks, more hard work, a front page photo above the fold in a not-small-town-but-not-a-huge-city paper, and then…???

Looking forward to following your work!
