Portfolio Relaunched
May 8, 2008 | 8:42 am

My sincere thanks to the many readers out there who wrote in or IMd me about the portfolio portion of this site being broken. I think “borked” was the proper term.
I had missed a few updates of the SlideShowPro for Lightroom plugin I am using to power the site, but the biggest problem was of my own doing.
A few weeks ago, my webhost (Bluehost, which has been excellent, by the way…) introduced a new feature called “Hotlink Prevention.” Hotlinking is basically when someone posts an image or a video stored on *your* site on *their* site. So, they are, in essence, using your storage space and bandwidth for their own nefarious, or non-nefarious deeds.
Thinking this is a good thing, I just went ahead and activated the service.
And everything seemed fine.
I didn’t put two and two together, though, until last week, when someone on a troubleshooting forum indicated this might be a problem. Apparently, I was preventing MYSELF from hotlinking images stored on my own server. Stupid, I know.
Anyway, the Portfolio site is back up and running, and everything seems to be performing smoothly. If you’re using a very small monitor, or very low resolution (anything below 1024×768), you may not be seeing things properly. But, you can’t make all of the people happy all of the time.
Stop by and check it out, let me know how it works for you and so on.
Peace, and Happy Thursday!
