Total Lunar Eclipse
February 20, 2008
As much as I love my new lens (reviewed below), it’s still only 200mm long. Nights like tonight I wish I had a 400mm or 600mm, or access to a telescope. This isn’t very sharp because it was really cold out (it went from a high of 70+ this afternoon to about 35 in about three hours!) and I didn’t want to mess with multiple exposures to get it right.
This was taken at 200mm, toward the end of the “totality” of the eclipse. The colors were kinda spooky.
For some great shots, check out Moose Peterson’s Double Exposure (with the 600mm VR from Nikon)

I don’t want to hear about it being cold. I was out there when it was 3 degrees.

Context is everything, right? For you Iowans, you may be sun bathing when it’s 35 degrees, but here in Texas, we tend to shy away from such things…
And, I failed to mention I was in boxer shorts and a t-shirt (I figured the neighbors would be looking elsewhere, so it was safe), and not exactly outfitted for such weather!

I like it. I have a fixed 200mm; maybe next eclipse I’ll drag it out. I didn’t even get to see this one because it was severely overcast in Houston.
