Kwazulu-Natal plateau

One year ago today we left Kruger National Park for the long, long drive down to KwaZulu-Natal and my former home. We were trapped for a good 30 minutes by this family of elephants on our way out of the park, so I took advantage of the opportunity to snap a few shots of Baby Steve here.

Coming down through the eastern Transvaal (I have no idea what the province is called now), and then the northern part of Natal, we were caught in a massive summer rainstorm. The rain was so heavy in some parts that we had to pull over and wait, because the wipers couldn’t keep up. For about 30 minutes we watched this radio tower high up on a bluff get struck by lightning about 50 times. It was amazing. And then, the rain stopped, and we got to drive through the scene depicted above.
