Slow Week

Working at a university is interesting. Obviously, when the students are present there is a buzz and level of activity that is palpable. Actually, it’s very palpable right around 3:00pm when everyone gets back to their dorm rooms and starts Facebooking and emailing and YouTubing and all the other things they do that bring the network to a crawl.

And then there’s the rhythm of the school year…ups and downs that coincide with the academic calendar. And today is the first day of the first week after finals, and this place is dead. Two cars in the parking lot when we got here this morning. Blazing fast internet. Empty halls. While the faster internet connection is great, the absence of the students just makes this place feel slow and lazy. Hence, today’s photo.

I’ve seen a couple of websites dedicated to pointing out the appearance of Apple computers and products in movies and t.v. shows, but I haven’t yet seen a site for mentioning appearances of cameras. Maybe that’s because there hasn’t been a nerd big enough to start such a thing. Anyway, while watching some reruns of The Office the other night (specifically Season 2’s “Conflict Resolution” episode), I spied what I thought to be a Canon 5D, with an EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens and a Speedlight 580EX attached. The lens might have been the 24-105, but I’m pretty sure it was a 24-70. It’s a small thing, really, but with the CSI family of shows constantly hawking Nikon cameras (D2x?) and their fancy macro ring light flashes, it’s good to see a Canon make it on a popular show. Nerd, signing off.
